Traditions at Cape May, Family at Heart

For as long as I can remember, tradition to visit my relatives has always been heavily respected. My relatives, although primarily living in Staten Island, every Summer vacations in Cape May, New Jersey. Because Cape May is so close to home, my parents and I make an effort every Summer to visit them there no matter the cost. Although this may seem tiring to some people, visiting Cape May every late Summer reminds me why family is important and why Cape May is such a great place to visit.

Driving into Cape May, clear blue skies were visible in the horizon and the nice warm breeze welcomed me and my family to a yearly long tradition. Memories of the years prior swelled in my head and to see my relatives once again would remind me of the years that have past. The same small strip of sandwich and pizza places stocked the side streets and were tempting considering our just finished long ride.

Where we were staying at was where we stayed last Summer. The Marquis de Lafayette hotel is a longtime beachfront hotel with a seasonal pool and free breakfast options. Although a bit pricey, especially being near the shore, it's been our tradition to stay here and we always feel welcomed stepping through the glass doors.

As for my relatives, they stayed in the Montreal Beach Resort. The Montreal Beach Resort is another beach hotel with a seasonal restaurant, outdoor pool, and patio bar. My relatives always stay here coming down to Cape May so the iconic logo of the bird flying over the sunset is ingrained into my mind. Although not as nice as the Marquis de Lafayette, it still remains a place of memories for me and my relatives as countless hours have and are spent talking outside sharing drinks and food.

As for what to do in Cape May, there is a mini strip mall that hasn't changed much from the years I've been going there. Old toy stores, ice cream parlors, and restaurants filled the streets and families who have shared there traditions here walked about happily; for the most part.

Ending the night, me and my relatives (like we always do) walked along the beach watching the sunset on the horizon. My uncle, trying to catch fish but never achieving his goal, my cousins saying how there doing in school, and a yearly family photo ended the evening on a high note. Cape May might not have an exuberant amount to do, but the memories you share with your family and relatives are what make Cape May worth visiting. And if not for that the peaceful and welcoming atmosphere can keep you occupied too.
