Old Nostalgia at the County Fair
As if visiting home was not enough, being home insists on family outings to relive the memories of the past before I began college. Although sounding negative, it honestly is a feeling of joy to attempt things that may not have been as good as you can remember. For every August in my hometown, the perfect example of this would have to be the County Fair.

At the beginning of every August, my hometown of East Brunswick hosts the Middlesex County Fair located on 655 Cranbury Road. As a child, me and my friends would attend this fair annually but as our lives became more involved, times to do this became harder and harder to do. For 80 long years, it has been a tradition to bring families and thousands of residents together for the fair and it promises to bring a final week of "summer fun" to the community. This is inherently true, for the most part, and to see this fair again with my family was a treat to behold once again.
Swarms of people could be seen crowding around food vendors and rides as the sun was slowly setting. From experiences last year, the food does not necessarily agree with my stomach so the avoidance to eat was strongly advisable. The ferris wheel, and gravitron attractions were fully operational but with an exuberant price of thirty dollars, I quickly passed on the experience.
Walking passed the carnival games, the reminder of money lost trying to win prizes soured the visible feeling of enjoyment. However, the memory of riding this ride in particular took me back to my innocent elementary school days.
Entering the arts and crafts section of the County Fair, a live performance of a uni-cyclist juggling flaming torches could shockingly be seen. The crowd clapped in awe as the man risked his hands veraciously trying not to fall off the uni cycle. This definitely was an impressive witness of skill and kept families occupied for the time he was performing.
The County Fair would also be lying if it did not have the opportunity to ride horses. One of the best experiences of my childhood was riding horses so it was nice to see the tradition continue on to the next generation of kids. Seeing memories be made was truly a sight to see.
Finally, the County Fair had introduced a blacksmith to the list of attractions new to the fair. The blacksmith showed numerous families how the swords and knives are made and it was truly fascinating. Having variety in the fair showed that at least the fair was evolving over the years.
As the day finally came to an end, the Middlesex County Fair surprised me in a variety of different ways. The realization of how important the fair was to the entertainment of the community and trying to form new classic memories for a younger crowd resonated with me. Forming new memories for a new generation, similarly like the fair did with me all those years ago.
